How to Wash Hooded Towels

How To May 26th, 2010

Hooded towels or just like any other type of towel when it comes to washing, just throw them in the washing machine, select the wash cycle, and away you go. However, for some types of towel, for example, the novelty or seemed towels, you have to be a little bit more careful. These types of towels often have additional features on the outside such as animal faces, buttons or similar items. For these types of towels, you should first of all turn them inside outs, so that the faces do not get bashed in during the wash cycle.

One important point is that you should always machine wash the towels before their first use, since this will remove any excess dye inherent in the material. It should also reduce the amount of color bleed in future washes, and prevent color bleeding into other items in the wash.

Since there are often a lot of colors in these types of towels, it is best to wash them at a lower temperature to protect the colors are little bit more. A wash cycle temperature of 40° or 30° is ideal. When you initially go to wash them, do not put any whites in the wash as the hooded towel is likely to color bleed during the cycle. Turning inside out will also protect any tapes or frills on the outside edges of the towel – since these are often the first thing is to wear out on traditional hooded towels.
Once you take them out of the wash cycle, turn the towel back the way it should be, and layout to try. Remember that these structures are only for themed towels, so turning them inside out is not necessarily if they are of the normal variety.

If you want your hooded towels to be as soft as possible, you should tumble dry them in a tumble dryer. This will give the towels the optimum fluffiness, and your kids will thank you for it!
